Everything families need to know about eligibility, tryouts, and travel for the upcoming Tsunami season.
Eligibility
Who is eligible to try out?⌄
Tsunami fields a Boys 16u Surge team and an Boys 18u Tidal team. Athletes must be age-eligible per USA Volleyball guidelines for the 2026 club season. All experience levels are welcome to attend tryouts.
Do I need prior club experience?⌄
No. We evaluate athletes on athleticism, coachability, and fundamentals. Prior school or club experience is helpful but not required.
Are there academic requirements?⌄
We expect athletes to remain in good academic standing at their school. Athletes pursuing college recruitment should also register with the NCAA Eligibility Center — see our Recruitment page for details.
Is AAU and USAV membership covered in club tuition?⌄
No. AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) and USAV (USA Volleyball) athletic memberships will need to be purchased separately before participating in any tournaments. Memberships will last from September – August. Multiple membership years are also available.

Tryouts
When and where are tryouts?⌄
Tryout dates and locations are announced before each season. Check the Schedule page or contact the director for the most current information.
What should I bring?⌄
Athletic apparel, knee pads, court shoes, water, and a positive attitude. Hair tied back and jewelry removed. Arrive 20 minutes early to check in.
How are teams selected?⌄
Coaches evaluate skill, athleticism, attitude, and team fit across multiple stations and game-play. Offers are extended within a few days of tryouts.
Is there a commitment fee?⌄
Yes. A $250 commitment fee is due within 24 hours of accepting an offer and is included in your total tuition.
Season & Practices
What are the in-season dates for Boys Club Volleyball?⌄
In-season for boys club volleyball runs from October – January then will break during the boys volleyball high school season. Tournaments and practices will then kick back up May – July ending with AAU Nationals.
When is the 1st practice?⌄
Practices will begin in September!
Where will practices be located?⌄
Practices will be located mainly at Lake Region High School. However, due to availability, practices may also take place at Winter Haven High School. Advanced notice will be given always.
Travel Expectations
How much travel is involved?⌄
Boys 16u Surge competes primarily in local and in-state tournaments. Boys 18u Tidal competes in a mix of local, in-state, and out-of-state tournaments at the highest competitive level.
Are travel costs included in tuition?⌄
Tuition covers coaching, practice facility, club apparel, and tournament entry fees. Family travel costs (hotel, transportation, meals) for out-of-town tournaments are not included.
Are families expected to travel with the team?⌄
Yes. Athletes are responsible for their own transportation and lodging at tournaments. We provide a recommended hotel block and travel itinerary in advance for each event.
What is the practice commitment?⌄
Boys 16u Surge practices twice per week. Boys 18u Tidal practices up to three times per week. Athletes are expected to attend all practices and tournaments unless excused in advance.
